Multipoint lock repair
The mechanism running the full height of your door does the actual work. When it fails, the door either will not lock or will not open.
A multipoint lock throws several hooks, rollers or bolts into the frame at once. It is what makes a modern door secure — and when the gearbox inside wears out, the door can jam shut or refuse to lock at all.
Signs the gearbox is going
- The handle lifts but the hooks do not throw
- The handle has become loose or floppy
- The key turns endlessly without engaging
- The door has to be pushed or pulled to lock
Repair versus replacement
Alignment problems and worn keeps can usually be adjusted. A failed gearbox needs replacing, and matching the correct strip is the difficult part of the job — there are many patterns and they are not interchangeable.
Multipoint locks — common questions
My door will not lock unless I lift the handle really hard.
That is the classic warning sign of a gearbox on the way out, or a door that has dropped. Both are fixable, and both get worse if left.
