Euro cylinder replacement
The cylinder is the part the key goes into — and on most modern doors, it is the part worth upgrading.
On a uPVC or composite door, the cylinder is both the easiest part to change and, if it is an older one, the weakest point in the door. Swapping it is quick, and it does not disturb the rest of the mechanism.
Getting the size right
Cylinders are measured from the central cam outwards, and a cylinder that protrudes past the handle plate is far easier to attack. Part of the job is fitting one that sits flush.
Upgrade options
- Anti-snap cylinders with a sacrificial break line
- Anti-drill and anti-pick protection
- Thumbturn cylinders for doors that need to open from inside without a key
- Keyed-alike sets across several doors
Cylinder replacement — common questions
Can I fit a cylinder myself?
It is possible, but sizing is where most DIY swaps go wrong. A cylinder that sticks out past the handle is less secure than the one you replaced.
